That's the VW VR6 (Golf/Corrado/Sharan), now renamed V6. It's an oddball design, basically the same as the old narrow-angle Lancia Fulvia V4. A narrow-angle (12-15 degrees, can't remember) which uses ONE head with 2 camshafts; each camshaft runs all of the valves on one bank of cylinders, so technically in operation it's an SOHC design. The V5 is this engine minus one cylinder. The so-called "W" engine (really a double-V) is baseed on this design also, except that each bank is a complete narrow-angle V, so really has 4 banks... wierd.

The EG33 engine from the Subaru SVX is an easier conversion, with much more power and it looks like it belongs in the Vanagon... the KEP Subaru 4-cylinder kit fits it also. DOHC 24V flat-six, 250+hp.
