<P>Sounds like the solanoid to me. I had the same problem with my Syncro. The starters on Syncros are a nightmare to remove, so I decided to bypass the solanoid by useing a Ford one. Someone had suggested this and wrote complete instuctions (check archives). Total cost was about $15. Or replace starter (solanoid included) $$. P-mail with any ???</P>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;I have an 85 Westfalia GL, 250 000 km (150 000 miles) on the original motor,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;transmission, starter and alternator. In the last week I've had problems
<DIV></DIV>&gt;starting it. With the key in the 'start' position, the fuel pump comes on
<DIV></DIV>&gt;but the motor doesn't turn over for a few seconds. Then it turns over at a
<DIV></DIV>&gt;decent speed and catches. Seems to only do it when cold, and the battery is
<DIV></DIV>&gt;fine as far as I know.

<DIV></DIV>&gt;Could this be the ignition switch, starter or alternator? I was planning on
<DIV></DIV>&gt;buying the Bosch hard start relay kit A(sooner or later) because i have had
<DIV></DIV>&gt;problems with hard starts, when the motor wouldn't turn over fast enough.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;But in this case it turns over fine, when it decides to do so.
