Sounds like the "Westie sag" syndrome that many old Westfalias suffer. It is a result of having so much extra weight on the left side. I guess some kind of lift shocks might help. They also make rubber blocks that fit into coil springs, but I've never seen them used on a Vanagon. I guess if you had the tools and the time, you could "rotate" the springs, right to left, so they would sag evenly! New springs are the best answer. I'm going to be adding an auxiliary battery to my Westie soon, and I will put it under the passenger seat for just this reason.

when you look at my van from the rear, it is noticably sagging to the left a few inches, was thinking this was the coil spring since the shocks are not looking shot(no oil leaking from them), does this sound right? anyone know where i could pick up a set of springs? the only thing i found out in the archives says this may be a good thing, adding more traction(?)but it is unsightly to me and i'd like to fix it...any help appreciated..
