              steering fluid
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

new lister here. and with a PROBLEM. 1986 US spec vanagon 2wd, power steering, auto trans. the van was running fine, until i decided to leave town for two months. upon returning, i started her up. CLACK CLACK CLACK.... it runs, but makes this clacking sound as the engine runs. faster idle, faster clacking. souns like...a constant, loud knocking. metal on metal, internal. no smoke. no stalling, or performance change, but this loud noise. mysteriously, the noise went away suddenly, after driving the car for a while, then i left town again, and the clack is back and wont go away. what is it? what do i need to pull and fix? ANY ideas?

AND, where is the power steering fluid resevoir?
