Subject: Damsel In Distress - Advice from List Silverbacks?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Volks, Wednesday my van went into the shop for a last minute check up--she's been running great, without any symptoms or trouble. I asked the mechanic to tighten any loose nuts/bolts on the undercarriage & agreed to his suggestion to do a coolant hose pressure check & tighten any loose clamps.

My coolant was changed & engine flushed & bled last fall. There have been *NO coolant leaks. In a whole year, I've only had to add a half pint of coolant mix.

Since leaving the shop, there's a loud gurgling/swishing sound of liquid moving, sometimes in the rear, sometimes in the front. It's intermittant, but making this noise a *lot of the time while driving.

I assumed it was air in the coolant, resulting from the pressure testing. So today I returned to the mechanic, described the sound, & asked him to listen. He insisted that it was FINE & that air didn't need to be bled from the coolant. He never even confirmed whether or not it *was coolant I was hearing.

This doesn't sound/feel right to me. Also, I found a little coolant pooled around the clamp at the top of the main coolant reservoir. Before the mechanic did this pressure test, I've never seen a *single drop of coolant anywhere.

Please, I hope a few of you List Silverbacks are tuned in tonite! I just hate it when I take a perfectly good running van into a shop & drive off with a worrisome problem...
