Subject:      Rear windshield wiper. Problem or is this normal?

Being new to the Vanagon world I do not know if my rear windshield wiper is
supposed to continue in an intermittent way. When I push my lever backward
to give a squirt of water to wash the rear windshield, I excepted the wiper
to stop after a few strokes. However, sometimes it acts like the energizer
bunny-- it just keeps going and going and going.

Isn't this wiper supposed to stop after it goes through its initial cleaning
cycle of  3 or 4 wipes to clean off the water?

Is something stuck? Or am I just ignorant of how to use it properly?
