So I finally got around to going and getting my newest addition -- a 91 Carat. I bought it knowing that it had a coolant leak of some sort.... the PO said that it was most likely a blown hose or something of the sort. So I drag it home and unload it from the trailer, back it into the garage and dump some water into it. As soon as I put the water in it came right back out. So I crawled underneath to take a peek....just about had a heart attack there. It was leaking right off of the head gasket. Eeek! But with the steady stream that was coming out of there it couldn't be the head gasket. Out with the jack -- van up. Looked up under there and its leaking out above the head. Its coming out of a coolant distribution sort of thing.... there are a bunch of coolant hoses going in and out of this deal. Sorry I don't know just what its called. It looks to be leaking at where it connects (seals) to the case. Simple enough? Just a gasket there? I cant see it leak from up top, but crawling underneath its quite visible....the stream of water is anyways. Is this a common leak point? Other than that nothing seems too far out of order. Needs belts, and probably cap/rotor/plugs/wires etc. Nothing too outrageous though. I don't know how many miles are on this engine or the history of it. Could be original to the bus. 140,000 on the clock. Any tips, suggestions, rants or raves? Thanks, Isaiah -62 -71 -91 |
