You will find out that the little blue light is not an LED but a
regular light bulb with a little blue cover inserted in the
instrument dash. It is 12V and will work directly unlike the
resistors on the the LEDs.
The light bulb inserts into the back of the instrument panel just
like the LEDs and costs around $8.00 at the VW dealer.
I scavaged a junk yard and got my replacement from a Golf, same
light.
I felt obligated to purchase something from the junk yard so I got a
dome light out of it too.
