My 83 has a big screw off lid on the tank and I just take liquid dish soap and scrub it down inside with a soft sponge a couple of times a year. I'm in Dallas Texas and our city water has so much chlorine in it that you can smell it when it comes out of the tap, so I guess it gets cleaned with chlorine every time I fill it.
