Subject:      Tailights, Bulbs, and the Art of not getting Rearended.

Saw this discussion, and have decided to add my thought's.

The Vanagon has inherent taillight viability problems.

One, because of the weak electrical system. Two, because of the positioning of the tailight housings.

Over a year ago, I installed 50 watt bulbs, in my GL, for taillights as well as the brake and running light.

I am now current with the rest of the vehicles on the road, and can be seen from the rear, as they can.

I also installed halogen backup bulbs so I can see when I'm backing up.

Nice addition to any Vanagon, no len's melt, no housing melt, nothing more than visibility-----

This subject has been debated a long time ago, and a few of the other Listmembers tried it, and from what they have said are happy camper's with the change-----

If any of you newer listee's want the part number's for the bulbs let me know---I'll dig them up and post them----

PS ---- visible taillight's are not illegal---- They just make good sence.
