Ladies and Gentlemen,

I fear that things are getting a little out of hand over the past 2 weeks with all these worthless posts, so it's time for me to step in.

Simply put, PLEASE STOP IT.

This list was created to talk about Vanagons and the Vanagon "experience". Things like driving them, camping in them, working on them, or simply meeting other folks that enjoy them. It's a place to exchange and find out tips on troubleshooting and repairs or to offer help to others. To tell others about a great campsite you found or a neat way to customize your Van.

What we don't need to see is:

-Discussions on politics, foreign policy, religion, gun control, birth control and the like. If it's not somehow Vanagon-related (and I'm pretty liberal about what *is* Vanagon-related), I don't want to see it. Even on Friday, when off topic posts are permitted, I would prefer to see some sort of Vanagon context.

-Complaining on the list, about the list. If you have a issue, complain to me..not the entire 1000+ member list. Send me a suggestion like, "Hey Tom - Can you post a reminder about snipping the replies. I noticed that some of the messages were getting too long." I fancy myself a reasonable person...if your point is valid, I will act. If not, I won't (and I will provide an explanation). But badgering everyone else about it simply wastes their time and clogs their inbox.

-Volunteer "List Cops". If you see something out of whack, show some restraint. Instead of spouting off to the entire list, how about dropping me an e-mail instead. I'll follow up and take care of the issue as need be. That's *my* job, not yours. And cut me some slack if it takes me 12 hours or more to respond. I have a career, a family and I like to sleep a good six hours or so each night. If I don't act immediately, I'm doing one of those other things. Many times I don't act when somebody runs afoul of list etiquette, because 20 other people already slammed the offender.

-HTML Mail. I have the list set up to strip HTML mail when possible. Our server options are set at Language=English,NOHTML. But some posts will still come through as HTML no matter what...It has something to do with MIME attachments. Feel free to read about it at: http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/1.8d/owner/appendb.html#keyLanguage

If you made it this far without hitting the delete key, GREAT. I appreciate you taking the time to read it all. I enjoy the list and both running it and participating. I don't want anybody to take what I have said too personally, this is just an effort to keep it a community we can all enjoy and benefit.
