Subject: Radio Antenna replacement -
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

I installed my new radio antenna yesterday and I thought that I'd share a problem that I had so that if, and when, folks find this in the archive I can save them some grief.

My van's antenna had snapped off so I could use a 17mm socket wrench to un-screw the nut holding the base of the antenna to the body. The nut was hard to get off so I kept torqueing with the socket wrench - BAD idea. I twisted the base of the old antenna and that twisted some of the sheet metal around the base of the antenna. I caught it in time before I made a complete hash of it. I then used to vice-grip pliers to grab hold of the base of the antenna as I torqued the nut. This worked OK, I should have done this the first try.

I used the method of removing the front grill and left headlight, pulling the antenna down through the grommeted hole, cutting the old wire and taping the new wire to that old end and then with the ash-tray out, and the instrument cover off, I could easily feed the new wire back to the radio as I re-inserted the new antenna.

Hope this helps somebody. Malcolm
