Jeff; Sounds like your radiator is not up to peak efficiency. I do not recommend a system flush. It made matters worse on our 85 GL and 86 Transporter. Instead I removed the radiators and had them cleaned. It solved our hot running problems. It is also possible the thermostat is not opening properly since the heaters bypass it.
