I have photos of two 1987 campers (non-GL) with body colored pop-tops, one maroon, one blue. Neither pop-top had been repainted though both needed to be. The Florida sun does bad things to body colored pop-tops; they end up turning white eventually. :>)

If I understand it correctly the pop top color may depend on the trim level of the Westy. Some GL models had the pop top in body color while the base models did not.
