I've been following the posts regarding soldering vs. crimp connections and
this is a subject that I've been wondering about for quite a while.  I'm
wondering if someone with actual hard knowledge would be willing to give me
the benefit of his or her advise.  Having grown up in the 60s learning tube
electronics and knowing how to make a really good solder connection, I
almost always go that route when I can.

But I've heard that there are times when soldering is contraindicated.  I
don't know the reasoning, but it seems that it sounded good at the time.  I
do know that I always use Vaseline on my battery terminals and they work
fine and stay free of corrosion.

I've been wondering if it might make good sense to dip wires into Vaseline
prior to inserting them into crimp connectors.  This might solve the
corrosion problems and I can't think of any downside.  I've never heard of
anyone doing this, but it seems to me to be a good idea.

Anyone care to comment?
