I removed the seat in order to remove the cover when I replaced the heater core. Realizing how much a Vanagon enjoys having its cooling system bled, I did not install the cover once the new heater core was in place. I certainly didn't want the hassle of taking out the rear seat every time I had to exercise the rear heater core bleeder. Terry Kay had a better and more direct approach. He simply cut away the housing below the heater diffuser. With that nuisance strip of housing removed, the cover can be removed and replaced without removing the rear seat.
