I picked up the Westy and did a little local driving and so far I can't really tell a lot of difference. I took a look at the parts that he removed and the upper ball joints were pretty well, loose as a goose. The rubber was totally shot. The lower ball joints were still tight but showed some wear, rubber totally shot (would not qualify for very tight description).. I'm supposing that the PO (I got the Westy at 145K) had most likely replaced the lower ball joints prior to my purchase. All of the out coming rubber parts looked servicable and showed no splits or abnormal wear. I'm OK with the expense, at 287K it can't be bad to have a newly rebuilt front suspension.
