I agree with you! I've had a CHC since new (1990) and find it to be extremely practical with the way you can remove the cabinetry and change the van back to a 7 passenger. I've never owned a Westy so I may be missing something (I DO like the way the cabinets look and feel on a Westy, and the poptop seems to "fit" the lines of the vehicle better). Retaining the full width VW back seat/bed is a major plus on a CHC, IMHO. If the CHC cabinetry looked more like the Westy (euro design look) then it would be perfect, and I expect a competent cabinet maker could make it so.

<For poptops check out country homes: http://www.countryhomescampers.com/ Interiors pretty much suck though, there does'nt seem to be anything else in the world like the westy!>

Have you actually owned a Country Homes Camper? I'll try to limit my response to the interior not "sucking". Having owned several Westy campers and weekenders, I find the CHC interior to be a better "muliti-purpose" design, with more seating, more usable space, less weight (no left leaning), better pop-top design, better fridge (if you prefer electric), no expensive yet fragile plastic utility outlet doors or skylight, PLUS the option of relatively easily removing the camping appliances / cabinetry for more space. Try that with a full camper Westy! Westys are so popular because they are the most abundant of the Vanagon conversions, not because they are the best designed ones. AdventureWagens excel as campers, and CHCs are superior interior-wise for multi-purpose usage.

MHO,

Cary
