You will have a great time in Mexico and I wouldn't discourage your trip. I would be envious ! ;) Another listee posted their positive experiences with obtaining vanagon parts in Mexico, this is great. My only concern was that I would feel better when I know that I can get major parts from a local wrecker if I need them, and, since Vanagons were not sold down their, I would want to be aware of that.... It IS true that labor is very reasonable if you do need to get something done. I have had exhaust systems, upholstery, AC recharge, brakes and other things done while I was down their and found the work to be good and the price great. I suppose if worse came to worse, both UPS and Fedex could deliver an odd bit very quickly. Lodging in a westy is very cheap (!) and lodging in a hotel is quite reasonable too. Just don't go to a MOTEL, those are almost always for .... err, very short term rentals...
Happy travels! Rio So if there are no used or new parts in Mexico for the Vanagon, what does one do if they are down Mexico way and the van breaks down? William P. Note that the wasserboxer, nor for that matter later type 2-4 aircooled pancake engines, were not made or sold in Mexico so used spares are not about. No vanagons either.
