Hi Volks; The Tiico conversion into my 83 Westy is breaking the long alternator mounting bolt. An otherwise excellent conversion, I can't understand why the alternator is mounted in such a dumb way. A quite hard 6" bolt goes thru a 2" support mounted on the engine, there is an inch of free space (I made a spacer), and then it goes into the alternator bracket! This means that the relatively heavy alt is hanging off a 4" rod which I stress even more by attaching a tight belt as far away from the engine support as one can get and still be connected. Hey Peter, don't you think there should be a better way?? I hope someone out there has already overcome this problem and with an easy fix. I've thought about cutting off the alt support from a junk golf engine and welding it in place of the existing support, but I don't know if I want to be welding on top of my new engine!! Any help will be appreciated, and it being Friday, I can take a few flames if I'm missing a dumb fix. Glad I still have my original Waterboxer, now lets see if it starts.
