Hey Marshall,
Every year the DBG (see the February 2000 trends for more info on
the club) makes a pilgrimage to Road America for the vintage weekend. It
is a truly unique chance to see over $1B (as in 9 zeros) worth of exotic
cars cruising on the track and in town as well. This is the same group
mentioned in the instructions to the Revell Vanagon model, and we have a
certain calling there. The LeMans series is now being held there and the
excitement is starting to build here as well.
Right now DBG is just starting to put our calender together for next
year. Many club members are also SCCA members and track workers for a few
events there. For the Vintage Racing series we camp-out about 20 minutes
from the track on a local farm in the beautiful Wisconsin hills of the
Northern Kettle Moraine range. Our club member is a split bus fanatic and
has been known to rip through his property in an off-road thing a time or two.
I'll bring this up to the club. We may just be looking for something that
weekend. The camping is great, Road America is great, and the town,
although overpriced for Wisconsin during RA weekends, is fun and it's bars
are well stocked with plenty of the local finest ales. (Even a few brews
that will impress my Canadian relatives)
Camping at the track is a rip-off. They ask for $75US a night and have no
facilities to speak of. Plus you had better like the sound of generators
running all night.
I'll keep the list posted as to the DBG activities for that weekend.
