I am also a little at a loss on the appeal of the large tires, in width as well as diameter. At some point, size/weight becomes a liability and diminishes performance. The ideal size in terms of suspension performance and power-transmitting efficiency and traction and ability to take rough terrain at speed may not necessarily be the biggest fattest tire you can squeeze in there. Excuse my exageration. But i was curious whether there has been much effort to determine what the best size/weight would be on performance grounds rather than just height.
