Thanks guys! I feel like a complete idiot, but it was the fan belt too loose. It's also rainging today, and quite a bit cooler/damper, so I think this affected it.

I also found the reverse switch... with it's wires cut off and dangling. Gonna have to bust out a voltmeter, and test it... guess I'll just rewire the lights, cuz whoever did it first did a lousy job.
