I have a '87 in which I just replaced the thermostat w/Wahler unit (87C)-
same as what came out which was working prior to the head gasket r&r
job...had some difficulty getting the housing to seal correctly afterwards
(coolant getting by the thermostat), and now all seems to be normal as far
as how the engine warms up, but only after I installed an additional o-ring
(1.90mm) under the thermostat to assist sealing (the OEM replacement upper
o-ring measured 3.40mm) and that worked. That is, I was able to properly
seat the housing So, now I'm left wondering if the o-ring I installed is
going to compromise proper function of the thermostat? Although, there are
no warm up or overheating troublems...yet?
Hmmmm, said Mike
