At least when such an invasion fattens the purses of those first in line at the feeding trough. Under the guise of saving the environment, they have found a way to help the progeny of Henry Ford and his fellow club members sell more cars. Is less energy, because that is what we are really talking about here, consumed to manufacture and use a new car or to restore and use an old car? Unlike the vagaries of currency and profit points, the joule is an irrefutable unit of measurement which should, in my opinion, be used to help make these decisions. If the benefits from the government's underwriting of the automotive industry were to be more equally disbursed among the populace, perhaps Big Brother's presence is not such a bad thing. After all, nothing stimulates an economy like waste. So, crush the old hulks, but don't feed me the bullshit that it is being done for the noble cause of saving the environment. Rich |
