My 83 Air Cooled Westy starts in the morning idling at 800-900 and Thats
right where its supposed to be. After I drive and it warms up in either
city or highway driving it idles on up around 1100 RPM. I just disregard
this and don't look for a fix. I like having 30 psi oil pressure at red
lights and the extra RPMs give you good cooling. I do not keep the clutch
pressed in at red lights I put the transmission in neutral, I mention
this because we've got some six and ten minute red lights here in Dallas
(sometimes they feel like 30 minute lights).
I'd venture to say that the fast idle could be caused by a vacuum leak, a
poor ground some place or even an injector that is leaning out, possibly
the yahootis right under the front of the four way intake box.
