Hi all, Today after an hour drive my van decided it likes to idle at very high rpm's. I don't have a tach, but it's idling so high that if i let the clutch out in first gear it'll drive without me pressing the gas pedal. My first thought was that the throttle cable or switch was stuck. I checked, and that wasn't the case. Where do I go next? I was looking at the section on setting idle speed in the bentley, but my suspicion is that the problem is more than just a matter of minor adjustment. It happened so suddenly and it's such a drastic difference. The problem is also sporadic (somewhat). For a moment today the idle did settle down, but not for long, pretty soon it went flying back up again. I was turning the van off at stop lights because it was reving away so hard. The van is an 82 aircooled, california model. The PO removed the idle stablizer, but i've had the van for three years and that's never been a problem. What shall I do? thanks all, greg. 82 westy. |
