Subject: oil leak update
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Had time to climb under the beast this weekend. Still have not found the exact source of the leak but there are some things that I checked.

The leak (where the clutch housing and engine meet) does not appear to smell like gear oil (as many of you suggested that I smell it). However, I also am not using engine oil so the source of the leak is still unknown.

Also, noticed that the lower mounting bolt of the starter had a drip on it. Have any of you experienced a drip from this location. This drip also does not appear to have the "sulfer" smell of the gear oil.

In all cases, the oil is black, most likely from all of the dust and dirt we pick up from the road and the 150+ miles I put on the beast a day. Can't tell anything by color.

Does anyone have any additional ideas?

William
