Y'know, I recently got a quote from a place called Europarts here in San Diego for $125.00 each side for 'rebuilt units', on an exchange basis. So, two (2) would be needed. These are complete assemblies so that one need not deal with that black (alemite?) grease s--t. Just replace as a unit each side. Apparently what they do is take the old ones, disassemble and place the 'cage' in a CNC machine to re-nachine & increase the bearing cage orifice, then installing the slightly larger bearings for assembly. Sounds like the way to go. I'm considering this route when the time comes. BTW, the guy at Europarts gets factory parts (VW, Mercedes, BMW) much more reasonable than my local VW dealer- as much as 50%. Pretty cool. I recently replaced the miles of coolant hoses in my Vanagon during the headgasket fiasco, and of course the factory hoses are the only ones that fit correctly, and the only way to go IMHO. Saved me some serious dough. No relation to me, but if anyone on the list can benefit from this guy, all the better. He says he ships all over the U.S. and Canada? Maybe he's already well known with some vendors? Europarts: (858) 451-0020

Regards, Mike
