Mike:

I recently installed KYB's on the front and rear of my '87 GL. The install went smoothly and was the easiest shock replacement job I've ever done. They ride nice but I did have one problem.

After installing the front shocks I was getting a thump/rattle noise from the front shocks. It turned out to be that the top rubber mount supplied with the KYB's is a lot softer than the original rubber pads. I removed the new ones and replaced them with the original VW rubber mount and the original VW cupped top-washer and the rattle/thump went away. Hasn't come back yet either.

Has anyone installed the KYB gas adjust shocks, front or rear? I'd appreciate your feedback.

TIA, Mike
