vanagon volks...

I had the opportunity to go to the top of mauna kea, the tallest mountain in hawaii (and the world if you measure it from the ocean's floor!) on saturday. the news in honolulu called and wanted footage of the snow that had fallen up there. so I thought it would be a great chance to try out my new bfg at ko's. unfortunately they would only let us go as high as the 12,000 foot level. got some good pics of the snow and people playing in it, but was unable to get to the top (14,000 feet), not cuz the syncro couldn't... I've done that several times, but becuz the road was closed. didn't even get to try to drive in the snow as the pavement was dry the whole way. *@!//* guess they got about two feet up there...

I may try tomorrow if the weather looks good. I want to shoot some pics not only of the snow on the mountain, but of my bus up top... it's very dramatic looking. btw, if you see hawaii snow footage on the tv anytime soon it's no doubt mine... all the networks bought it... cnn is looking at it and may use it... might even show up on the today show on monday. sorry for the late notice. you guys are all used to it, but to the local people around here, snow is a big deal... they even take up their pickup trucks, pile snow in the backs and drive them back to sea level to build snowmen, make shave ice and have snowball fights! needless to say the fun is shortlived.

snow in hawaii, can you dig it? where else can you surf, ski, and watch an active volcano all in the same day?
