Subject: Clutch Chatter Question
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi all, I have a Tiico conversion with 5k on it. It's a syncro. I have been having some problems taking off from a stop for the last week or so. If I dump the clutch & hit it, no problem. If I gradually let the clutch out like normal there is a strong vibration coming from the back. Like something is bouncing until the clutch is all the way out & I'm up to speed.

I checked to make sure all motor mounts, etc. are tight. No problems. I even had my girlfriend drive all over town while I sat in back with the engine lid off, No visible problems.

I've heard about clutch chatter issues on the list, but have never experienced it before. When I put the new engine & tranny in, I used a new Luk premium clutch kit from Bus Depot. This symptom is new. Has anyone else had a chatter problem with this kit?

One other notable symptom is that at the same time I started to notice the chatter, the bracket bolted to the exhaust bracket & welded to my muffler broke. I have no idea about a connection between the 2. They just occurred at the same time. My guess is the chatter bounces the engine which may have moved enough to make the muffler hit my tow hitch, thus breaking the bracket.

I love the Tiico, but one thing I find to be odd is the huge rubber bushings on the motor mounts. They are 2"+ thick & quite soft. I can move the motor around easily by pushing & bouncing it,(yes, I told you the bolts are tight). When I had the lid off driving, it bounces quite a bit over bumps.

Anyway, Can the clutch be adjusted to stop chatter? If anyone has any ideas or advice for me, please pmail me. I'm having a super beefy custom bracket made for the muffler. Hope that helps!

Thanks & happy holidays,
