I use a large diameter pool noodle cut in two. One section just
behind the luggage compartment and the other section at the rear about 6" ~
8" from the edge but before the step down portion of the pop-top. Using a V
tie down set-up front and rear has worked great. I have a 16' Grummond
aluminium canoe which is quite heavy and since it's not connected to the pop
top I have never tried raising the pop-top with the canoe on it. To get the
canoe up by oneself I have installed two sections of ABS tubing one 2" dia.
at the leading edge of the luggage rack and one 4" dia. at the rear edge of
the luggage rack the ABS tubes are longer than the luggage rack is wide and
rest on the right and left hand edges of the luggage rack and are tied to the
luggage rack tie downs with BIG plastic tie wraps. Put end caps on the ABS
tubes and you can put your fishing rods in there ! Rest the canoe on the
front ABS tube, then go to the end of the canoe and lift and push, letting
the canoe slide on the ABS tube You will be able to push and keep it balanced
from touching the pop-top untill it gets most of the way to the back. Have
the rear section of cut pool noodle on the rear of the pop-top so that when
the canoe comes down on the pop-top it lands on it. Adjust the canoe fore
and aft and adjust the pool noodles to suit and tie down front and back and
away you go.
