Assuming you have a manual transmission, I would check the starter support bushing. If it is worn it will cause poor starter performance. Dennis

I hope everyone is having a nice Holiday. Our 85 MV and 92 Jetta both died last week, and while we have the Jetta back, Brownie (MV) is still having problems. The mechanic says that the starter is going way too slow and will burn out another one if the problem isn't fixed. He' s going to start trying to isolate the "circuit", but I was wondering if any of you Vanagonauts knew of the probable problem. It has two batteries, and usually starts well the first time, but after it is warmed up, it is very hard to start. Additionally, we are planning another trip out to Phoenix, but have 2 sets of grandparents that will be accompanying us. Any brilliant ideas on a 9 seater Rental solution? Thanks!
