I'm in DC, and my van's been running at just under the LED when there's no traffic (30-60 mph sustained). It runs just above the LED in traffic or idling and the cooling fan cycles. I suspect your thermostat is stuck open, and if you let it idle for 40-50 minutes, it will eventually reach operating temperature (when the cooling fan cycles). wade -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM] On Behalf Of Kevin Kusmider Sent: Saturday, December 22, 2001 12:34 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Operating temp question
Happy Holidays everyone, Temperature questions seem to focus on running hot, but my question is just the opposite. My '90 multivan runs cold. I just drove home over an hour and the temp needle never even crept up. I did have the heat going full and was driving highway speeds, and the air temp in MD was in the 30-40F range This is not uncommon for this vehicle. If I let the car idle for a good half hour the temp guage does rise to a little less than midway so I assume the gauge is working. Also around town the guage will rise slightly. Is there a problem that can arise from not running hot enough? I am getting ready to leave on a long trip and wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance,
