Subject: # Recommended gear change speeds and RPM
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hello, Volks!

This issue probably has been raised in the past, but searching through the archives yielded LOTS of info related to improved gear ratio transmissions and motor conversions. I need just the plain, basic info. Here it is:

1. For a standard, 5 speed, Digijet (not Digifant), 2.1 Liter engine with standard 185R14 tires, what are the recommended gear change road speeds and what is the equivalent RPM? I've learned by now (from the archives) that the best rpm range (HP and torque) for the motor is 3000-4000 rpm, and that HP and torque don't max at the same RPM. Also, going over 4K rpm drives gas consumption UP and life expectancy DOWN. So theoretically a gear should be changed when reaching those limits, right? Any other opinions?

2. Does anyone have a clear, simple listing of the RPM vs. road speed for each gear for my van?

**if possible, please send me a copy via p-mail too since I often miss responses on this very active list.

===== Cheers, TinkerMan
