It was my understanding that higher octane gas simply burns at a higher temperature. Energy contents is no different so there is no advantage to using higher octane gas. However, if your timing is advanced beyond specs and your using a higher octane fuel you will see increased performance but at a higher combustion chamber temperature and pressure. Might as well add some sodium phosphate to the antifreeze and bake well. gary Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 14:09:56 -0600 From: Chris Stann <ChrisS@INFORMS.COM> Subject: Re: Fuel octane I occasionally use Super Unleaded as it yields slightly better (read: seat-of-pants) performance when attempting to stay above 70 MPH up those hills when loaded with STUFF. It's just Regular gas around town. -----Original Message----- From: mike miller [mailto:mwmiller@cwnet.com] Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2001 2:06 PM To: Chris Stann; vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com Subject: Fuel octane
I only use regular. I thought that was what we were supposed to be using. Not so? Mike
