Richard ; I see this is a 2.1L up grade. Was the oil-to-water heat exchanger retained? Often it is not. Has the water pump been checked? If it's pulley has any axial play(in and out) the fins are probably worn down hence reducing the amount of volume it can move. Maybe one or combination of both is causing your overheating problem. What part of the country are you?
