If the switch is working properly, it is either on or off. Blinking is
possible if the pressure is close to the switch point and changing.
Engine oil pressure is always highest when the engine is cold. I would
check the wiring to the switch as it is common for the wire to wear and
ground out on the engine.

Subject: Oil Pressure Light

While starting my 85GL late last night (after sitting for most of the
day)
the oil pressure light let off a very faint glow.  It was more visible
in
the pitch black with the dash lights off.  However, as the van warmed up
the
light faded off.  Is this a sign of low oil pressure when the engine is
cold?? I recently changed the oil and filter 20w-50 and VW filter.  It
just
started to become really cold here and I'm thinking that could be the
problem................

any ideas???
