Subject: Mixing tire treads on 84 Vanagon?

>Subject: Mixing tire treads on 84 Vanagon? > If you have a camper Vanagon, its very important to make sure your tires can support its weight. Look at the 'load index' on the tire. There are very few 14" tires (even so-called 'LT' ones) designed to support the weight of a fully loaded camper. I would advise inflating your tires to the maximum pressure allowed according to the tire sidewall. Under NO circumstances exceed this pressure even if the plate on your van advises a higher pressure. Mixing tire treads is ok, but keep the same tires on the same axle. This does restrict tire rotation possibilities unless you are willing to have the tires removed from the rims and mounted in reverse.

Dear friends:

Sorry for the double posting, I realized after I sent this the first time, that I should have a better subject line to get a response to my question........

I currently have 6 month old Uniroyal Laredo AWP (195 75R14) tires on the front of my 84 Vanagon Camper. I need to replace my rear tires and am thinking of getting Bridgestone Dueler A/T D693 for added snow and off-road traction. Can you advise me about the following:

1. Is it bad for road handling to mix tire types like this?

2. What pressure do you recommend for these tires for best wet road handling?

3. Do you advise rotating these tires for longer life? ( I would put the Bridgestones on the front during the summer months)

Thanks for your input and happy holidays, Michael Sheridan
