Subject: Advice on 1984 Westy

Tomorrow I am going to look at a 1984 (one owner) Westy. The major problem is it has a cracked cylinder. The owner did all he could to repair the engine miss and when he couldn't he decided to take it to a dealership for a engine analysis. They told him it had a cracked cylinder and now he has decided to sell it. He does not want to spend another $5000 on a new engine. It has 150K total miles on the vehicle and 50K on the second engine.

How would the dealership know it had a cracked cylinder? * Water in the cylinder? * Oil in the cylinder? * Suggestion?

Can this engine be repaired easily?

What would be a reasonable price for a used or new engine?

TIA

Tim O
