Where are you/the Westy located? That would determine your $$$$ position in the equation. West and South = more $$$$. There is a much smaller market for our vans in the North and East.

I have an extra running 1.9 (complete) that I just bought for my 1984... not needed, I just picked it up for the future. They are not that expensive if you have time to wait and shop around.

The I-4 conversion would sure be nice but I personally can't justify the expense for a seasonal vehicle, as my Westy is a camper-only....not a daily or even a weekly driver. I guess it depends on how nice the '85 is and your personal discretionary income level. The reliability factor leans toward the 1.9 in that most conversions haven't been driven as long as the WBX ers. Speed, power, holding it long term and tinkering all lean toward a conversion. Otherwise IMHO, it would be a 1.9 replacement.

My $.02 worth.
