Kevin,

We had the same problem a few years back.  Turned out that the hot wire
lead to the map reading light was grounding out because the light fixture
was loose in the dash.  Slipping a piece of heat shrink tubing over the
exposed spade connection on the back of the light took care of the problem
for us.
