An interesting theory for someone to try........

When I converted my '88 vanagon to Tiico, I didn't want to take it to the local dealer to have them set the computer. So, I purchased a cable and software from Rosstech. This software is OBDII compliant, and can be used on any VW with an OBDII connector. I called Peter at Tiico and he supplied me with the connector. Once I got it wired in, I was able to set the adaptation (fuel mixture) to a value of 135(default is 128) and it runs perfectly. (BTW, I've found that adding the O2 sensor makes the engine run so much smoother.) Now, stay with me here.... I was recently checking the error codes on my wife's '96 Jetta Trek with the same Rosstech software. While browsing through the settings, I noticed the same adaptation (fuel mixture) setting as the Tiico's initial value - 128. I've also found out that by upping the fuel pressure, the motor seems to respond better during the initial startup period. So, I was wondering if you could change the fuel pressure regulator to the one used by the later A3 ABA motors and not have to do anything to the computer? Has anyone on the list tried this?
