> Red light temp and engine replacement Pierre, Frank Condelli here in Almonte, just a few kms west of Ottawa. I have a shop and service Vanagons exclusively here in Almonte. I have owned Vanagons for more than eight years, and am a member of the IWCCC (Quebec Westfalia Club), LiMBO (Late Model Bus Owners International) and CCVWC (Ottawa Volkswagen Club). I would recommend you bring your Westy here for an inspection. The mileage on your engine (224,000 km) is still low enough that the engine may still be in serviceable condition. My '87 Westy has now 350,000 km on the original engine with the head gaskets repaired at 205,000 km. If your engine is solid with only the head gaskets leaking, I can repair this problem and it will stay fixed. I have done many and they do not leak again. If it is the head gaskets and there are no other problems there is no need nor does it make economical sense to replace the engine. Of course I need to look at the situation and make my own diagnosis. If the engine needs to be replaced I can get one for you. I also have a contact in Montreal who does the Subaru conversion if your interested to lean more about this option. I also know of another Westy owner, in Gatineau, who has recently installed the Tiico VW inline four engine whom you could speak. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
