Dear list members, I'm stranded in Annapolis, Maryland on my way home to Princeton, New Jersey, five miles out, sudden loss of power. I initially thought I was out of gas as we were towards the end of a tank. Before adding gas, attempted to restart and engine turned over but wouldn't kick. Added gas, starter turned over but wouldn't fire. Tried jumping it. Starter engages but won't turn engine over. Starter is weak. As of late, when I turn the key it will take a second before starter engages. Turning the key now, starter clicks, belts tighten but engine won't turn over. Appears to be seized. An alarming condition upon looking under the engine is gas dripping out of one of the joints in the exhaust system, left side. Checked for leaks in fuel injection hoses which have recently been replaced. no leaks. There were none of the hesitations and bucking associated with running out of gas; just a loss of power. Any ideas? Finn Runyon 87 Westy 410-643-1972. Any recommendations about mechanics in Annapolis area? |
