Thanks to the assistance of my friend Dave Kitzman I purchased a 90 Carat this past Friday. It's my first Vanagon and I'm psyched to have it, although it has a few things that need attending to. First on the fixing agenda is the rear heater. It's leaking from _somewhere_ although I can't tell from exactly where. With the seats, carpet and padding out I cleaned the area and after driving I only see a puddle underneath the passenger side of the unit. No visible coolant on the unit itself. The core has green stains on the bottom as well, but no fresh coolant on it. Also, the valve handle is cracked (big surprise). After reading the archives, my temptation is to replace the whole thing (valve, gasket and heater core). Opinions? Anything else that should be replaced while I have it all apart? One last thing: the insulating material is soaked with coolant. Any recommendations on how to get it out or where to get replacement material? John Runberg |
