As of April 2002, your BBQ tank will no longer be filled unless it is equipped with the OFP Valve, (Overfill protection Device). Propane can be extremely hazardous if not used and stored correctly. With the tank mounted on the van, it can not be weighed while filling as a BBQ tank is. The float valve and vent is the only way to fill it properly.

I have a propane tank for my westy that has no fill valve. The PO just told me the propane system didn't work. Upon removal and inspection I find that the tank is rusty, but seems sound. The fill valve seems to have been replaced by something that looks like a small water spigot, obviously not viable. Since that new automatic fill valve is so dang expensive, I got an idea...

Suppose I put on the tank a filler like is on a bbq tank, then only fill it when it is empty and tell the filler person the correct amount of propane to put in, so as not to overfill the tank. But it would be a pain to run out of propane while camping. So my solution to that is the adapter that allows hooking the disposable bottle to the big tank. That would allow getting by until a trip to the propane filling station is possible.

Comments?

Edward
