I just replaced my valves on my tank which I had sand blasted and powder coated white. ($75) don't mess with jury rigged valves on something as critical as a propane tank. Get the correct valve. You would not want a mistake to happen from an incorrect valve like an explosion would you?

The adapter idea is great however and I wish I had done it.
