I don't think there is much of a problem with parts supply so long as Peter keeps selling these things at TiiCo. When I've needed something he has generally been prompt although shipping by ocean freighter is quite slow and this can be frustrating. If you want to pay air freight costs, you can get things quickly from South Africa. Everything needed for a simple tuneup or minor replacement is available at our list vendors, your FLAPS, or your dreaded VW dealer. The temperature sensor, knock sensor, oil pressure sensor, distributor components, the duosensor (i.e. manifold pressure sensor, aka Thrust Sensor on the ALH engine), and basic engine components are ordinary VW stuff. The ECU and throttle body would probably need to come from tiico. The cylinder head is most likely from an ACC engine and probably available in Canada, where the ACC engine was imported in a Golf. Much of the other stuff is Vanagon diesel stuff. The Motronic MP 9.0 VW engines are sold in Brazil, Poland, and several other countries in 1.0L and 1.4L versions. Fundamentally, the external wiring of the MP 9.0 system is very close to the MonoMotronic systems sold by VW in the US in the 80's and early 90's but there are major differences in the ECU. If you want to know more about the MP 9.0, do a Google search for "Motronic MP 9.0". I think VW also sells the MP 9.0 as an industrial engine in the UK but I don't have any real data on this. I would imagine the ECU would be quite different in calibration from the automotive unit. FWIW Ed McLean |
